Wildcats Finish Seventh at Big 12

WACO, Texas. The Kansas State women’s golf team concluded the Big 12 tournament in seventh place after shooting a 309-321-310940 (+76). The teams seventh place finish is their best since 2003 when the Wildcats finished sixth.

Texas A&M captured the team title carding a 300-315-296911 (+47). Amanda Costner of Kansas won the individual title shooting a 71-73-77221 (+5).

Kansas State’s top finisher was senior Helene. Robert carded 80-76-78234 (+18) to finish her last tournament as a Wildcat tied for 20th place, her 16th career top 20 finish. Robert finishes her career as a Wildcat with a 78.1 career stroke average, one individual title, and two of the top-six 54-hole scores in Wildcat History. Robert’s 215 at the 2005 Marilynn Smith/Sunflower Invitational is third best in K-State history.

Wildcat freshman Abbi Sunner in her first Big 12 tournament came away with a 26th place finish after shooting a 78-78-79235 (+19).

Junior Michelle Regan came back from her second round 88 to finish tied for 32nd. Regan carded a 75-88-76239 (+23).

Wildcat Junior Hailey Mireles shot an 84-79-77240 (+24) to finish the tourney tied for 36th.

Senior Katy Heffel in her last appearance as a Wildcat carded a 76-90-79245 (+29) to tie for 50th place. Heffel finishes her Wildcat career with four top-20 finishes, a 79.8 career stroke average, and the ninth best 54-hole score in Wildcat history with her 218 at the 2007 Mountain View Collegiate.

“We hung in there after a slow start,” said head coach Kristi Knight. “This is our best finish in big 12 since 2003. Everyone contributed and they competed well. We played a tough stretch of holes along the lake in the strongest wind of the day and we made a few bogeys there, but after that stretch they did a nice job.”
