Cats Fall in Conference Championship Conclusion

LINCOLN, Neb. The Kansas State women’s golf team slipped to ninth after windy conditions upped the third round scores of the Big 12 Championship. The Wildcats concluded with a round 41-over par to finish with scores of 312-297-329938. All but one school, Colorado, had their highest round of the tournament as the course was plagued by 45 mph gusts throughout the day.


Kansas State’s top finisher was Katy Heffel, who finished in a four-way tie for 19th, marking her second top-20 finish of the season. Heffel started the day in a tie for 10th, but moved to 19th after a 12-over 84 in the third round and finished with rounds of 76-73-84233.


Teammates Michelle Regan and Helene Robert tied for 33rd, each with a 21-over 237. Regan carded scores of 78-77-82237, including a 10-over third round. Robert finished with rounds of 77-74-86237. Hailey Mireles had the best round of the day for the Wildcats, a 7-over 79, giving her a 22-over 238 at the championship. Mireles tied for 41st after the second day, but moved up four spots to finish in a tie for 37th. Kali Quick tied for 48th with rounds of 81-78-84243.


No. 12 Texas A&M overtook Oklahoma State, who led after the first and second rounds, after shooting a field-low third round with a 16-over 304. The Aggies shot round of 302-293-304899. The Cowgirls finished 11 shots back of the Aggies with rounds of 301-291-318910.


Aggie Ashley Knoll maintained her first-place standing from the second round and took the individual title with rounds of 69-71-75215, with a 3-over third round. Second-place went to Missouri’s Stephanie Wavro, who finished with scores of 76-70-75221. Anna Rehnholm of Baylor took third after carding a 7-over 223.
