K-State Ready for Big 12 Championship

MANHATTAN, Kan. -- The Kansas State women's golf team will travel to San Antonio, Texas, April 24-26, to compete in the Big 12 Championship at the par-72 6,333-yard Dominion Country Club. K-State will tee off at 10:00 a.m., on Friday and will be paired with Oklahoma and Kansas.

"We are looking forward to taking the team to the Dominion Country Club," said head coach Kristi Knight." We have had many highlights this season, including two team championships. The team's stroke average of 296.90 is nine shots better than last year."

The Wildcats will send the scoring lineup of sophomore Madison Talley, senior Carly Ragains, freshman Connie Jaffrey, sophomore Katherine Gravel-Coursol and senior Olivia Eliasson.

Talley looks to continue her successful season as the sophomore has earned eight top-20 finishes, including third overall with a 2-over par 218 at the Lady Buckeye Invitational. Talley, who currently leads the team in rounds at or under par with 13, also leads the team in average strokes per round under par at 3.27.

Ragains, who has recorded seven top-10 and 16 top-20 finishes in her career at Kansas State, has had seven rounds under par this season. Her best score vs. par was a 5-under 67 in the second round of the Johnie Imes Invitational, helping the Wildcats secure a season-best 54-hole score of 14-under par 850.

Having a very successful freshman season, Jaffrey holds a 74.33 scoring average. She hopes to add to her successful freshman campaign which has included three top-10 finishes, including an individual title at the Johnie Imes Invitational. Jaffrey also leads the Wildcats this season in percentage of rounds counted towards the team score with an 89.43 average.

Appearing in all 10 tournaments this season, Gravel-Coursol seeks a successful end to her sophomore season. Her best finish was a tie for 17th at the Sunflower Invitational, a tournament the Wildcats overcame a six-shot deficit to win its first tournament in 10 years.

In her senior season, Eliasson has carded three top-10 and four top-20 finishes, including an individual championship at the Ron Moore Women's Intercollegiate. Eliasson's individual championship helped lead the Wildcats to a team championship.

K-State finished eighth at last year's Big 12 Championship, while the Wildcats' best placing was in 2009 when Coach Knight guided the Wildcats to a fourth-place finish.
