AUSTIN, Texas - The Kansas State women's golf team currently sits in second place after the first round of the Big 12 Championship at the par-72, 6,143-yard UT Golf Course. The Wildcats compiled a team score of 5-over par 293, two strokes behind leader Oklahoma.

K-State was very consistent in the first round, carding six birdies and 56 pars en route to its third-lowest team round of the season. K-State led all teams with three golfers on the leaderboard's top 10, including senior Gianna Misenhelter in a tie for third and juniors Olivia Eliasson and Carly Ragains tied for eighth.

"Today was a good day. The ladies hit a lot of quality shots," head coach Kristi Knight said. "Most importantly they stayed patient and did not let a poor shot effect their mindset."

Misenhelter fired a season-best, bogey-free 2-under par 70, one stroke behind tournament leader Chirapat Jao-Javanil of Oklahoma. Misenhelter carded a team-high fourth round under par on the season and is in the final pairing of round two set to tee off at 10:20 a.m. (CT) tomorrow.

Ragains and Eliasson each carded two birdies and two bogeys on the day en route to an even-par 72. For Eliasson, her even score marks the fifth time this season that she has shot an even-par round, a team-high. Ragains, a Highland Village, Texas, native, averaged  3.90 strokes on par-4 holes, the second-best average among all competitors.

Rounding out the scoring lineup for the Wildcats was freshman Madison Talley, who fired a 7-over par 79, en route to a tie for 37th overall. Finishing one stroke behind her was freshman Katherine Gravel-Coursol who carded an 8-over par 80 and currently sits in 40th place.
