Women's Golf Places Four on Academic All-Big 12 First Team

IRVING, Texas – Kansas State women's golfers Elise Houtz, Emily Houtz, Hanna Roos and Paige Osterloo were named to the 2011 Academic All-Big 12 First Team, the conference office announced Wednesday.

Head coach Kristi Knight has now guided 34 Wildcats to Academic All-Big 12 selections in her 16 years at the helm with the 2011 additions.

This is Elise Houtz’s second Academic All-Big 12 First Team selection as her previous honor came during the 2008-09 season. An accounting major, Houtz participated in two events this season with a stroke average of 83.00.
Emily Houtz earned her second selection as well and her first since the 2008-09 season. A senior majoring in accounting, Houtz participated in five events this year with her best finish coming at the Sunflower Invitational where she tied for 23rd.

This is the first selection for Osterloo, a junior majoring in civil engineering. The Rapid City, S.D., native competed in all 11 events this season and recorded three top-20 finishes. Her best finish came at the Chip-N-Club Invitational where she took home second place.

Roos tallied her first Academic All-Big 12 selection as the sophomore art major participated in seven events and recorded one top-20 performance.

Nominated by each institution's director of student-athlete support services, the Big 12 women’s team had 32 first team recipients and seven student-athletes on the second team. First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, and the second team are those who have a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.

To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
