Osterloo Qualifies for US Public Links

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. Paige Osterloo of the K-State women’s golf team shot a 75 Saturday to finish second on the leader board at Prairie Green Golf Club and qualify for the 2009 US Women’s Public Links Championship.

Osterloo went into Sioux Falls riding the momentum that the women’s team gathered by finishing fourth in the Big 12 Championships a few weeks prior. The sophomore-to-be’s best finish for the 2009 season came in Honolulu, Hawaii, at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational, where she carded a 229 (+3) finishing 12th.

Kim Kaufman topped Osterloo at the qualifying event by one stroke after shooting a 74.

“This will be a great experience for Paige,” said head coach Kristi Knight. “She is a competitor and she continues to develop as a player.”

The Red Tail Golf Club in Deven, Mass., will host the US Women’s Public Links Championship June 22-27. Osterloo qualified for one of the 13 National Championships that the US Golf Association conducts.

A Rapid City, S.D., native, Osterloo will join 156 other players in a qualifying match play tournament where the field is cut to 64.

Results from the event will be posted on kstatesports.com as soon as they become available.
