Sunner and Houtz Honored by NGCA

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – Abbi Sunner and Elise Houtz of the Kansas State women’s golf team were named to the National Golf Coaches Association All-Scholars Team on Wednesday.


To receive the award, one must have at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA and have competed in 66 percent of our regularly scheduled events.


Sunner competed in all 11 events for the Wildcats during the 2008-2009 season. In 33 rounds, she held a 78.42 stroke average and an 18-hole low score of 67. The Ankeny, Iowa, native’s best finish came at the Challenge at Wolfdancer in Austin, Texas, where she tied for seventh.


Houtz, a junior, competed in nine of the 11 events this past season, totaling 27 rounds. She carded an 18-hole low score of 73 at the Big 12 Championship in Lubbock, Texas, which later paired with scores of 80 and 82 to tie her for 15th place.


Both Houtz and Sunner will return for the 2009-2010 with the lowest averages from last season.
