Wildcat Golfers Finish in Top Five at KWGA Amateur

WICHITA, Kan. - Kansas State incoming freshman Gianna Misenhelter and senior-to-be Emily Houtz finished in the top five of the championship flight during the 2010 Kansas Women's Golf Association (KWGA) Amateur Championship at MacDonald Park Golf Course on Thursday.

Misenhelter shot a final-round 72 to defeat Hannah Martin of Salina on the second hole of a playoff to claim second place. The Overland Park, Kan., product shot a 76 and a 77 in the first two rounds and bogeyed two of the first three holes on Thursday.

But Misenhelter was able to overcome the slow start to finish with a three-round score of 9-over par 225, three shots behind Amateur champion Katy Nugent of Wichita. Nugent carded a 6-over par 222, including a final-round score of even-par 72.

Houtz shot a second-round 70 on Wednesday to lead the event heading into the final day at 4-over par 148. The Manhattan native shot a final-round 79 to finish fifth at 11-over par 227.

Another senior-to-be, Elise Houtz, finished 12th in the championship flight at 22-over par 238.
