K-State Places Two in Top Three of CPT Event

SPRINGBORO, Ohio – Kansas State sophomore Whitney Pyle recently won The Collegiate Players Tour (CPT) Heatherwoode Collegiate Open at the par 71, 5,815-yard Heatherwoode Golf Club.

 

Another sophomore, Kristen Dorsey, tied for third in the event that was reduced to 36 holes due to rainy conditions.

 

Both Pyle and Dorsey recorded significant improvements in the final round, propelling the two Wildcats into the top three

 

Pyle, a product of Blue Mound, Kan., edged Jenna Rinker of Slippery Rock, Pa., by one stroke to take home the tournament title. Pyle was tied for third after a first-round 77 before the second round was canceled. She came back in round three to fire a 2-over par 73 – the second-lowest score of the round – to win the event at 8-over par 150.

 

Dorsey was tied for fifth after carding a 79 in round one before a 74 in the final round. The Gulf Breeze, Fla., native finished the event with an 11-over par 153. 

The Collegiate Players Tour is in its 17th year and is designed to provide summer golf competition for college-age men and women. The CPT is sanctioned by both college golf associations – Golf Coaches Association of America (men) and the National Golf Coaches Association (women) – and the USGA.
