Misenhelter Captures Kansas Amateur Championship

McPHERSON, Kan. - Kansas State sophomore Gianna Misenhelter carded a three-round score of 4-under par 212 to win the 2011 Kansas Women's Amateur Championship at Turkey Creek Golf Course.

Misenhelter is the second Wildcat in the last five years to win the Kansas Women's Amateur after Elise Houtz took home top honors in 2007.

A product of Overland Park, Kan., Misenhelter held the lead after each day as she fired back-to-back rounds of 3-under par 69 on Tuesday and Wednesday to take a seven-shot lead into Thursday's final round. The sophomore-to-be shot a 74 on Thursday to win the championship by six strokes.

Oklahoma State golfer Lauren Falley, a native of Topeka, Kan., finished second at 2-over par 218, while KU's Jennifer Clark, a Kansas City, Kan., product, was third with a 54-hole score of 219.
