MANHATTAN, Kan.—The Kansas State women’s golf team will open up its 2012-13 season at the Chip-N-Club Invitational, Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 10-11, at the par-72, 6,075-yard Country Club of Lincoln. The tournament will consist of 36 holes on Monday with a 9 a.m., shotgun start, while Tuesday’s final round will begin at 8:30 a.m.

Kansas State will be joined in the event by Creighton, Houston Baptist, Iowa, Missouri, Missouri State, Nebraska, Nebraska-Omaha, North Dakota State, SMU, South Dakota, Wichita State and Xavier.

“It is great to get the competitive season started, and the ladies are excited to match up against someone other than their teammate,” said head coach Kristi Knight. “We have had some good scores in our qualifying event, but, of course, there are areas we will continue to strive and improve on.”

K-State will send the scoring lineup of sophomore Carly Ragains, senior Hanna Roos, junior Gianna Misenhelter, sophomore Olivia Eliasson and senior Whitney Pyle. Freshman Scotland Preston will compete as an individual in her first collegiate event.

Ragains returns to the squad following a successful spring season as she registered one top-20 finish, including a career-best tie for 12th at the Mountain View Collegiate where she carded a 1-over par 217. The Texas native saw 9.33 out of her 10 rounds in the scoring lineup count towards the team score.

Roos participated in nine of 11 events last year, accumulating a stroke average of 77.56. The Sweden native led the Wildcats at the 2012 Big 12 Championship as she tied for 15th with a 54-hole score of 20-over par 230. Roos was also named a First Team Academic All Big 12 performer and to the National Golf Coaches Association All-Scholars Team.

Misenhelter returns to the squad after participating in all 11 events during the 2011-12 season, a year in which she led the team in stroke average at 75.29. The Overland Park, Kan., native also carded the team’s three lowest rounds and two lowest 54-hole scores.

Eliasson competed in four events as a freshman with her best finish at the Westbrook Spring Invitational in which she tied for 44th. Pyle participated in all 11 events as a junior, finishing second on the team with a 76.06 stroke average.

The Wildcats competed in the Chip-N-Club Invitational two years ago as the team placed second out of 15 teams, scoring a 23-over par 599.
