MANHATTAN, Kan. - The Kansas State women's golf team will open its 2011-12 season at the Dale McNamara Invitational, Sept. 12-14, at the Patriot Golf Course in Tulsa, Okla. The tournament will consist of 54 holes, 18 holes per day, with teams teeing off holes No. 1 and 10 at 8 a.m., each day.

K-State will be led in the event by junior Whitney Pyle and sophomore Gianna Misenhelter, along with junior Hannah Roos, freshman Olivia Eliasson and senior Ami Storey.

Misenhelter returns to the squad following a successful summer that included winning the Kansas Amateur. She competed in all 11 events as a freshman, having achieved four top-20 finishes and the team's best stroke average for the fall season. Pyle also comes back after participating in 10 of the 11 events, earning two top-10 finishes and the best overall stroke average for the entire 2010-11 seasons.

Storey participated in 10 of the 11 events last season, starting off the 2010-11 season with a top-10 finish at the Chip-N-Club Invitational and ending the year with solid scores at the Mountain View Collegiate and Big 12 Championship. Roos competed in seven events, with a top-20 finish at the Chip-N-Club Invitational.

"This group seems to have a purpose about them, and they want to do good things this year," said head coach Kristi Knight. "They are on their way to fully understanding what that takes. We do have some young ones, but we also have some experienced ones. I think there is more to it than wanting to do well. You have to put in the effort and the focus towards it."

Kansas State will be joined by Arizona State, Arkansas-Little Rock, Arkansas State, Central Florida, Iowa State, Kansas, Longwood, Middle Tennessee State, Missouri, Northwestern, Oklahoma State, Southern Miss, Oral Roberts and Tulsa.

"It will be a good competitive field for us on a great golf course," said Knight. "It will let us know where we are as a team, but I am very encouraged from what I have seen from the first two weeks of practice."

The team competed in the Dale McNamara Invitational last year where the Wildcats placed 10th out of16 teams, scoring a 16-over par 931.

Misenhelter carded a 12-over par to earn 19th place finish. Storey took home a 25th place finish with a 14-over par.
