Wildcats Return to Action in New Mexico

MANHATTAN, Kan. - Fresh off a season-opening victory, the Kansas State women's golf team will travel to its second tournament of the season as the Wildcats will compete in the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational, Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 15-16, at the par-73, 6,192-yard UNM Championship Course in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

The tournament will consist of 36 holes on Monday followed by 18 holes on Tuesday with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. (MT) both days.

Six members of the K-State squad will be competing in next week's event with Chandler Gallagher, Connie Jaffrey, Madison Talley, Olivia Eliasson and Katherine Gravel-Coursol making up the scoring lineup. Carly Ragains will participate as an individual.

"I am very proud of the team," K-State head coach Kristi Knight said. "They have been playing and practicing well. They will enjoy the University Course at New Mexico. It has hosted multiple NCAA events. It is a good golf course."

In the Wildcats' first event of the season, the Marilynn Smith/Sunflower Invitational, K-State was led to the win by Gallagher, Jaffrey and Talley as each finished in the top five. The team won their first event in 10 years with a 30-over par 894, six shots better than in-state rival KU.

Kansas State will be joined in the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational by 15 other teams, which includes Brigham Young, California, California-Davis, Colorado State, Denver, Gonzaga, Iowa State, UNLV, Nevada, Northwestern, Oklahoma State, Pepperdine, San Diego State and UTEP.
