K-State Heads West For Ron Moore Intercollegiate

THE FORMAT:  The 2007 Ron Moore Women’s Intercollegiate, hosted by the University of Denver, begins Monday, Sept. 17, with 36 holes and finishes Tuesday, Sept. 18, with the final 18. Both days will begin at 9:30 a.m. (CT) with shotgun starts. Tuesday’s final round pairings will be determined by the two rounds played Monday. The low four individual scores will determine the team score for each round. Live scoring will be available on www.golfstat.com. Results will be posted on www.k-statesports.com when made available.

 

THE FIELD:  Seven Big 12 schools highlight the participants in the field. The entire 18-team field includes Arkansas-Little Rock, Baylor, Colorado, Colorado State, Columbia, Denver, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Mississippi, North Carolina-Wilmington, Nebraska, Northern Colorado, San Francisco, San Jose State, Texas Tech, Tulsa and UC-Davis.

 

THE HOST Highlands Ranch G.C.: Designed by three-time U.S. Open winner Hale Irwin, Highlands Ranch is a par 72, 6,518-yard course located in Highlands Ranch, Colo.

 

LAST TIME OUT: The Wildcats placed three individuals in the top 10 in the Chip-N-Club Invitational last week en route to a second-place team performance on the Woodland Hills Golf Course in Eagle, Neb. K-State’s final tally of 50-over par 902 on the par 71, 6,079-yard course placed them second in the 19-team field. Senior Kali Quick led the charge with her career-best 54-hole score of 220, landing her in a tie for second place. Sophomore Abbi Sunner was tied for sixth place with her 10-over par 223 total. Senior Michelle Regan posted a score of 11-over par 224, good enough for a tie for 10th.

 

MOVING UP:  K-State’s second-place finish in the Chip-N-Club Invitational was the team’s best since they came in second at the spring 2005 Chip-N-Club Invitational at Wilderness Ridge G.C. in Lincoln, Neb. In that tournament, the Wildcats placed two ladies in the top 10. Helen Robert was fifth with a score of 10-over par 216 and Kali Quick was tied for sixth with a 12-over 228. The last time the Wildcats were first as a team was the spring 2004 Texas A&M Mo’Morial with their score of 909 in the 16-team field.

Fall Preview of the Wildcats: K-State loses two players from last year due to graduation in Helene Robert and Katy Heffel, but head coach  Kristi Knight looks to have an experienced squad in 2007-2008. The Wildcats will be lead by the senior trio of Hailey Mireles, Kali Quick and Michelle Regan. Mireles played in every tournament a year ago and owned a 78.38 stroke average along with a pair of top-20 finishes. Quick competed in seven tournaments last year, including a season best 13th-place appearance at the NMSU Invitational, and posted a 78.84 stroke average. Regan had season-high fourth-place showing at the Badger Invitational last year and led the Wildcats in stroke average at 76.54. Coach Knight will also look to junior Krista Nelson and sophomores Abbi Sunner and Morgan Moon, as well as incoming freshmen twins Emily and Elise Houtz, to field a competitive squad in the 2007-2008 season.
