Wildcats Finish Up Play in Colorado

HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo. The Kansas State women’s golf team wrapped up play Tuesday at the Ron Moore Women’s Intercollegiate in 16th place. Playing on the par 72, 6,518-yard Highlands Ranch Golf Course, the team posted rounds of 310-315-309934 in their second tournament of the young season. After play was suspended due to darkness Monday night, the women finished their second round Tuesday morning before playing their final 18 in the afternoon.

“It was kind of rough day, but that’s golf,” K-State head coach Kristi Knight said. “We’ll take this experience and move on. We definitely know what we need to work on. The girls battled for all 54 holes, and that’s very important. I appreciate that as a coach.”

The University of Denver, the host school for the tournament, ran away with first-place by shooting a 22-over par 886. Denver golfer Stephanie Sherlock won the individual title after firing a three-under par 213.

Senior Kali Quick led the way for the Wildcats with her 14-over par total of 230, good enough to tie her for 36th. Senior Hailey Mireles was four shots behind with an 18-over par 234. Mireles finished in a tied for 50th.

Senior Michelle Regan and sophomore Abbi Sunner concluded the tournament in a tie for 57th after finishing at 19-over par 235. Junior Krista Nelson shot 82-81-80243 for her two days to land in a tie for 79th.

The Wildcats’ next tournament will be Monday and Tuesday, October 1-2, in Manhattan, Kan., when they host the Marilynn Smith/Sunflower Invitational at Colbert Hills. It will mark the first time since fall 2005 that the K-State women have competed in tournament competition on their home course.
