K-State Women Tied For Third After Day One

MANHATTAN, Kan. Led by Kali Quick’s 36-hole score of 146, the Kansas State women’s golf team is tied for third place with just 18 holes to go in the Marilynn Smith/Sunflower Invitational at Colbert Hills. K-State shot rounds of 299 and 306 Monday on the par 72, 6,157-yard course. The Wildcats were in first place after round one but were overtaken by Kansas and Missouri heading into final action on Tuesday.

Kansas leads the tournament after posting a team total of 24-over par 600, and Missouri finished day one in second with a 25-over par score of 602. Missouri’s Julia Potter is the top individual after a day of 1-under par golf, firing a 143.

Quick played consistently on Monday, shooting a pair of 1-over par 73s. Quick’s day included an eagle two on the par-4 ninth hole during her first round.

Abbi Sunner finds herself in a tie for 17th with an 8-over par 152. Sunner fired a pair of 76s and is looking to move up and snag her second top-10 finish of the fall.

Michelle Regan and Hailey Mireles both carded rounds of 10-over par 154. Regan shot a 6-over 78 on her first 18 holes and improved that by two strokes on her final 18. Mireles shot a season-best 72 on her opening round, beating out her 76 at the Chip-N-Club Invitational, before posting an 82 to end the day.

Freshman Elise Houtz, playing as an individual, shot rounds of 79 and 77 for a 12-over par finish of 156 in her first tournament action of the year. She is in a tie for 28th-place heading into the final round.
