Wildcats head south for McHaney/Morehead Invitational

MANHATTAN, Kan. -  After tieing for seventh place in the Marilynn Smith/Sunflower Invitational, the K-State women’s golf team will travel to Lubbock, Texas, to compete in the Jeannie McHaney/Audrey Morehead Invitational, Monday, Oct. 6 and Tuesday, Oct. 7. The tournament will tee off with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. on Monday for the first 36 holes, and the final round will begin with a shotgun start Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. Teams will be scored by their top four individual finishes each round.


THE FIELD:  K-State will be one of seven Big 12 schools in the tournament and will face Big 12 opponets Baylor, Colorado, Missouri and Texas Tech for the first time this season. The 13-team field includes Baylor, Colorado, Kansas, Kansas State, Middle Tennessee, Missouri, Nebraska, North Texas, Redlands Community College, Sam Houston State, Texas Tech, Arkansas Little Rock and  UTSA.


WHAT’S HAPPENING:  The K-State women’s golf team will get a chance to compete against six conference opponets in the McHaney/Morehead Invitational. The Wildcats have faced only two conference teams so far this season in Kansas and Nebraska. Sophomore Emily Houtz will make her first appearance in the lineup this season.


THE HOST The Rawls Course:  The Texas Tech women’s golf program will host 12 schools in the Jeannie McHaney/Audrey Morehead Invitational. The Rawls Course is a par 72 with a total yardage of 6,525.


LAST TIME OUT:  K-State finished tied for seventh out of 13 in the Marilynn Smith/Sunflower Invitational at Alvamar Golf course in Lawrence, Kan. The Wildcats were led by two top-20 finishers in freshmen Laura Hildebrandt and Paige Osterloo. Each finished with 236 strokes (+20) to tie for 20th place. Junior Abbi Sunner finished just two shots behind K-State’s leaders carding a 79-79-80238 (+22) to tie for 28th place.
