K-State Fights Wind, In Second After Day One

KUNA, Idaho Blustery conditions couldn’t keep Michelle Regan from being atop the leader board as the senior led Kansas State into second place with one day to go in the Bronco Fall Invitational. The Wildcats tally of 45-over par 621 on the par 72, 6,193-yard Falcon Crest Golf Course was only behind the tournament-leading Nebraska. K-State was in first after 18 holes.

“There were extremely tough conditions today,” head coach Kristi Knight said. “I’m proud of how they hung in there. We did leave a few shots out there, but, all in all, they did a lot of things good, too. The wind was blowing 30 to 40 all day, and it was tough to get the ball close to the hole.”

While the Cornhuskers are leading the tournament as a team, Regan is the individual leader after 36 holes. She opened her day with a 76 and bettered that by a stroke on her last 18, giving her a total of 7-over par 151 on Monday. The Prairie Village, Kan., product will be looking for her first collegiate win Tuesday.

Not far behind Regan are Abbi Sunner, Kali Quick and Hailey Mireles. Sunner fired an 11-over 155 to land in a tie for third place. Quick, playing in her home state, shot rounds of 77 and 80 for a 13-over par day of 157, good enough to be tied for fifth. Mireles is at 14-over par 158 and is in a tie for thirteenth.

The tournament will finish Tuesday as the women will begin their final 18 holes in a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m. Results will be posted at www.k-statesports.com when made available.
