Wildcats Head to Price's Give?em Five

MANHATTAN, Kan. -  The K-State women’s golf team will look to rebound after an 11th place finish at the Jeannine McHaney/Audrey Morehead Invitational. K-State now travels to New Mexico to play in Price’s Give’em Five at NMSU Golf Course in Las Cruces, N.M. The tournament will be played Monday through Wednesday, Oct. 13-15, with shotgun starts each day. Monday and Tuesday rounds are set for 8:30 a.m. (MST) and the final round will be Wednesday at 7:45 a.m. (MST). Teams will play 18 holes each day and will be scored by its top four finishers.

 

THE FIELD:  The 17-team field will consist of Baylor, CincinnatiColorado State, Eastern Washington, Hawai’i, Kansas State, Missouri, Nevada, New Mexico State, North Texas, Oklahoma, Oral Roberts, Samford, San Diego State, UC Davis, UC Irvine and UTEP.

 

LEADERSHIP:  K-State’s freshmen were the story early on in the year, but experience is starting to show. Juniors Morgan Moon and Abbi Sunner now lead the roster in strokes per round, both are averaging 79.00. The Wildcats will now look for the newcomers to keep pace with the veterans.

 

2006 Price’s Inv.:  After taking a year off from the Price’s Give’em Five, K-State returns to NMSU. In 2006 the Wildcats finished 11th of 17 at the Price’s Invitational. K-State’s top finisher in the tournament was then-junior Kali Quick, who finished in a tie for 13th place. All five competitors in this years Price’s Give’em Five will be new to the tournament.

 

THE HOST NMSU Golf Course:  The NMSU women’s golf program will host 16 schools in the Price’s Give’em Five Collegaite. NMSU’s golf couse is a par 72 and measures 6,319 yards. The course is known for its narrow fairways and difficult roughs.

 

LAST TIME OUT:  Following a rough first round, K-State finished in 11th at the Jeannine McHaney/Audrey Morehead Invitational at the Rawls Course in Lubbock, Texas. The Wildcats were led by Morgan Moon, who finished tied for 13th, which is the highest finish by a K-State player this year. Moon carded a 80-77-74231 to finish the tournament at 12-over par. Fellow junior Abbi Sunner was K-State’s next highest finisher with a score of 86-78-80244 (+25), and a 53rd place finish.
