Golfers Head West to Price's Give?em Five Intercollegiate

NEXT ON THE TEE:  The Kansas State women's golf team will travel to Las Cruces, N.M., for the Price's Give'em Five Intercollegiate, Oct. 12-14, at New Mexico State Universtiy Golf Course. The three-day format will be the first for the Wildcats this season, with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. Monday and Tuesday. The final round is scheduled for an 8:00 a.m. shotgun start Wednesday.

THE FIELD:  K-State is joined by familiar Big 12 competitors in Kansas and Baylor. The Cats have competed against Kansas three times with a record of 1-2. K-State has not faced Baylor this season. UC-Irvine won the event last season and will return again this season. The entire 18-team field consists of: Arizona, Baylor, Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno State, Idaho, Kansas, Kansas State, Mississippi State, Nevada, New Mexico State, North Texas, Northern Arizona, Oregon State, Portland State, San Diego State University, UC-Irvine, UTEP.

PRICE'S GIVE'EM FIVE  PREVIEW:  This will mark the sixth time in history that K-State has traveled to New Mexico to compete in the Price's Give'em Five. The intercollegiate will be played as a three day competition with one round played each day. This will also be the first and only time of the fall season that the Wildcats will travel west of Manhattan for competition.

Head coach Kristi Knight will send seniors Abbi Sunner and Morgan Moon, junior Emily Houtz, sophomore Ami Storey and freshman Hanna Roos. This lineup has a stroke average of 78.94 on the season thru 38 rounds.

Moon and Sunner are the only two who competed in this tournament a year ago. Moon shot a 54-hole score 230 (+14) and Sunner shot a 239 (+23). It was the first time for both golfers to compete in the event.

2008 PRICE'S GIVE'EM FIVE: K-State was unable to make up any ground in the third and final round last year as the Wildcats shot a 23-over 311 to finish the Price's Give'em Five Collegiate tied for 11th at 307-314-311-932 (+68). Moon was the Wildcats' best finisher as she carded a 73-77-80-230 (+14) and finished tied for 31st. Paige Osterloo, who was a freshman at the time, finished six strokes back from Moon with a 79-80-77-236 (+20).

NEW MEXICO STATE UNIVERSITY GOLF COURSE:  The competition will take place at New Mexico State's home golf course in Las Cruces. The course measures 6,193 yards and is a par 72. It was built in 1961 and is comprised of Bermuda grass greens and fairways.

LAST TIME OUT: The ladies traveled Columbia, Mo., on Oct. 5 and 6 to compete in the Johnie Imes Invitational where they finished 13th at 85-over par (949). The challenging greens of The Clud at Old Hawthorne proved too much for the Wildcats and they were unable to improve off their second round, which proved to be the most successful round even though it was divided between two days because of darkness. Ami Storey's 2-over par 74 was a main contributor to the low total in the second round and was also a season 18-hole low for Storey.
