K-State in Eighth After First Round

Las Cruces, N.M. The Kansas State women’s golf team sits in eighth place after the first round of the Price’s Give’em Five Collegiate at the par 72, 6,319-yard NMSU Golf Course. The Wildcats are just four strokes out the top-five.

K-State carded a 19-over par 307 through the first round of play, just one stroke behind UC Davis.

UC Irvine is atop the leader board with a comfortable four-stroke lead, carding a 293 (+5). Baylor, winner of the 2008 Jeannine McHaney/Audrey Morehead Invitational last week, is currently in second place with a score of 297 (+9).

Jane Chin of UC Irvine currently leads all players, carding a 70 (-2). There is a three-player tie for second place with Hannah Burke of Baylor, Pang Chanachai of New Mexico State and Alice Kim of UC Davis currently tied at 72 strokes (E).

After pacing the Wildcats with a 13th place finish last week, junior Morgan Moon is once again looking to lead the team. Moon carded a 73 (+1) after round one and is currently tied for fifth place thanks in part to four birdies made (4) and a par-3 scoring average of 2.5 strokes.

“Moran (Moon) is doing a great job for us,” said head coach Kristi Knight. “She has come a long way since last season.”

Freshman Laura Hildebrandt will be looking for her second top-20 finish of the year as she currently sits in a tie for 29th after carding a 4-over par 76.

Junior Abbi Sunner and freshman Paige Osterloo are tied for 53rd with identical scores of 79 (+7). Elise Houtz rounds out K-State’s competitors with a score of 85 (+13).

The second round of the Price’s Give’em Five Collegiate will begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. (MST) on Tuesday. The third and final round will begin at 7:45 a.m. (MST) on Wednesday. Results will be posted on www.k-statesports.com as soon as they become available.
