Cats in eighth after day one at NMSU

LAS CRUCES, N.M. The Kansas State women’s golf team sits in eighth place after shooting a day one round of 310.


San Jose State holds the overall lead after the first day with their round of 296, three strokes better than second place Boise State.


Junior Michelle Regan leads the Wildcats. She finished the first day with a score of 75, just three strokes out of the individual lead.


Junior Kali Quick finished the day with three birdies. She carded a round of 77 to finish the day tied for 26th.


Junior Hailey Mireles shot a 78 first round to finish tied for 36th.


“Michelle (Regan) and Kali (Quick) played well, but they both said they left a few shots on the course,” said head coach Kristi Knight. “The field is bunched up. We need to go out tomorrow focused on the target and positive.”


As a team the Wildcats finished the day with ten birdies, and shot two under par on the par five holes.


Kansas State will shoot two more rounds, one round tomorrow and a third round on Wednesday.
