Women's Golf Signs Three-Time Champion

MANHATTAN, Kan. – The Kansas State Women’s golf program has announced the signing of Gianna Misenhelter to a National Letter of Intent (NLI) for the 2010-11 season on Monday. Misenhelter is currently a senior at St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Overland Park, Kan.

"I am excited to have Gianna join our team in 2010,” said head coach Kristi Knight. “Gianna will be a great addition to our program. She brings a tremendous work ethic and is a fiery competitor. Her success on the course ranges from the local events to national events. She has a real passion for the game and enjoys the challenge of testing herself and improving."

Misenhelter has won three individual Kansas State High School Championships, taking home the 2007 Class 5A/6A Championship, before winning the 2008 and 2009 Class 5A state titles. She has also won 29 out of 35 high school tournaments, including four regional titles during her time at St. Thomas Aquinas. For her outstanding performances in high school competition, Misenhelter was selected as a National High School Golf Coaches Association All-American in 2009.

Outside of high school competition, Misenhelter was a medalist at the 2008 and 2009 USGA Public Links Qualifier at Swope Park Golf Course and has two top-10 finishes in 2009 AJGA tournaments. Misenhelter boasts a course record of 66 at the Overland Park Golf Course that she set in October of 2008 and also owns a course record at Swope Park Memorial Golf Course of 67. Misenhelter was selected to compete in the Champions Tour Wal-Mart First Tee Open at Pebble Beach in September 2009, in which she was paired with fellow Kansan Tom Watson. The duo finished 11th out of 78 teams.
