K-State Drops Kansas Cup

MANHATTAN, Kan. - The Kansas State rowing team dueled with in-state rival Kansas for the Kansas Cup on Wyandotte County Lake on Saturday but could not come away with a victory falling 12-8. K-State won the most valuable race of the day besting Kansas by nearly five seconds in the 1st Varsity 8 race. The Wildcats crossed the line in 7:11.2 to earn eight points toward the team total.

The 1st Novice 8 and 2nd Varsity 8 races were the closest of the day as all were decided by less than five seconds while Kansas handled both the 1st and 2nd Varsity 4 races.

Head coach Patrick Sweeney said he was pleased with the first varsity's performance and commented that the team as a whole has made improvements over the past week as well. "Our focus from here on out will have to be further progress in technical consistency, since this was our downfall today."

The Wildcats will have two weeks to prepare before heading to the Southern IRAs in Tennessee.
