K-State 2V8 Named Big 12 Boat of the Week

March 26, 2014K-State AthleticsMANHATTAN, Kan. – The 2nd Varsity 8 was named Big 12 Boat of the Week after a strong performance at the Longhorn Invitational. The lineup of coxswain Kara Omo and rowers Chelsea Goble, Lindsay Smith, Aly Bronder, Abby Weaver, Ariana Thompson, Hunter Anne Postier, Lacey Reifschneider and Kayla Brock earned K-State’s first-ever victory on record over a ranked opponent this past Saturday, defeating No. 19 Oklahoma by nearly five seconds.

For the weekend, the Wildcats’ top-performing boat finished 2-1. The crew’s second victory came against Tulsa, a dominating win that saw K-State’s time of 6:45.2 outpace the Golden Hurricane’s finish of 6:52.68 by over seven seconds. The 2V8’s only defeat came in a tightly-contested battle against the San Diego Toreros, which narrowly defeated the Wildcats by a margin of .02 seconds.

The weekly honor is the first awarded to a K-State boat since the 1st Varsity 8 earned the accolade on April 19, 2012. Bronder was also a part of that crew, which was honored for its performances at the San Diego Crew Classic and the Sunflower Showdown.

The Wildcats will look to keep the Kansas Cup in Manhattan for the fourth-straight year, as they will face Kansas in the Sunflower Showdown this Saturday, March 29, in Kansas City.
