Southern IRAs Up Next for Wildcats

MANHATTAN, Kan. The Kansas State rowers will take to the waters for the third-consecutive week as the Wildcats will travel to Oak Ridge, Tenn., for the Southern IRAs. Preliminary runs will take place on Saturday, April 19th, while finals are scheduled for Sunday, April 20th. The event hosted by the Southern Intercollegiate Rowing Association has drawn 238 entries including four for the Wildcats.

The Wildcats will begin competition in the packed regatta at 7:47 a.m. on Saturday with the Novice 4+. The Wildcats will take on NSU-La., Davidson, Ohio State, Tampa and Vanderbilt early in the morning on Melton Hill Lake. In the afternoon, K-State will field an entry in the Novice 8+ prelims and race against Grand Valley, Alabama and Kansas (2N) at 2 p.m.

The Varsity teams, who most recently lifted K-State to a victory in the Kansas Cup against KU, will open up the regatta with the Second Varsity 8+ at 2:30 p.m. The boat will compete for an advancing position to the finals against Tulsa, Ohio, Alabama and SMU. The First Varsity 8+ will be K-State’s final race in the prelims at 5:22 p.m. as they take on SMU, Grand Valley and Tulsa.

K-State will be a part of the Southern IRA field for the fifth-consecutive season. Each of the last two seasons at least one Wildcat boat took an event win, as last year both Novice teams earned first while the First and Second Varsity 8+ took third position.
