Varsity 8+ Closes Season 8th at Regional

MANHATTAN, Kan. – The Kansas State First Varsity 8+ rowing crew finished eighth in the Central Regional on Sunday putting in another solid performance on the water.

K-State’s top crew brought in the most points of any other Wildcat boat reaching the Petite final and placing highest of any Wildcat crew in their respective events. Racing as the First Varsity 8+ were Michael Knoll, Michelle Higgins, Kristin Richman, Christa Bowman, Heather Hoffman, Jennifer Flannigan, Dana Davidson and Nicole Vogt with Kilah Bond coxing. They finished eighth in the Petite final, culminating the team’s racing season with a time of 6:25.5.

Head coach Patrick Sweeney said he has been impressed with the First Varsity crew all season for its consistency in racing with intensity and providing leadership for the younger Wildcats.

The Novice 8+ also brought in good marks for K-State with an improvement from Saturday. In their C final, the Wildcats bested the field by more than five seconds. Clocking in at 6:42.3 the Novice crew earned six points toward the Wildcat effort.

The Wildcats participated in two other C finals on the day with the Varsity 4+ finishing in fifth to tally nine points. Also in the Second Varsity 8+ C final, K-State finished sixth for 18 points.

The Wildcats scored a total of 114 points in the competition to place 10th in the Central Regional of the 2009 Aramark Sprints South/Central Regional.
