K-State Rowing Hosts Rival in Sunflower Showdown

MANHATTAN, Kan. - The Kansas State rowing team takes on in-state rival Kansas this weekend hosting the Sunflower Showdown on Saturday at Tuttle Creek Lake. The Wildcats and Jayhawks will take to the water beginning at 9:30 a.m. for four races.

K-State looks to keep the Sunflower Showdown trophy in Manhattan, racing four Varsity 8+ boats against Kansas. This year's race will offer no novice events, so the K-State boat that took gold in Des Moines two weeks ago will be stepping up a level. The Wildcats won the Sunflower Showdown in 2007 winning all three varsity level races, and last year's Sunflower Showdown was cancelled due to inclement weather on the lake.

Saturday's event is being supported by the Women of K-State initiative, headed by First Lady Dr. Noel Schulz. Parking is available at Breidenthal Teamhouse and admission is free.

K-State will close its fall schedule in two weeks participating in the Head of the Iowa on October 25.

Racing Schedule
9:30 a.m. 4th Varsity 8+
9:40 a.m. 3rd Varsity 8+
9:50 a.m. 2nd Varsity 8+
10 a.m. 1st Varsity 8+
