Flooding Sinks Head of the Iowa Competition

MANHATTAN, Kan. More than six inches of rain across Iowa over the past three weeks have made conditions unsafe and forced officials to cancel Sunday’s Head of the Iowa competition in Ames, Iowa, K-State rowing coach Patrick Sweeney announced on Wednesday.

The event would have been K-State’s second of the season, but the wettest October in Iowa since 1984 has washed out the event. The K-State rowers opened the season at the Head of the Des Moines on Sept. 29, and captured three event titles.

No make-up date or any plans for a make-up have been announced, but any schedule changes will be published immediately at www.kstatesports.com. The next scheduled race for Kansas State is its home event, the Sunflower Showdown on Saturday, Nov. 10.
