Niedermayerova Secures Upset at Georgia Invite

ATHENS, Ga. – Kansas State women’s tennis opened action at the Georgia Invitational on Friday and saw freshman Petra Niedermayerova register an upset over a ranked opponent in singles action at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.

The Wildcats took on the host Bulldogs, who enter the spring dual season ranked No. 15 as a team in the Campbell’s/ITA College Tennis Rankings, in both doubles and singles action. For the day, K-State faced four ranked singles opponents and a ranked doubles pair.

K-State’s lone victory on the day came from Niedermayerova, as she handed No. 67 Nadja Gilchrist a 6-2, 6-4, defeat. The product of Brno, Czech Republic, secured her first win over a ranked foe and evened her record at 4-4 in her first season with the Wildcats.

Kansas State will have a busy day on Saturday at the Georgia Invitational, as the Wildcats will begin action at 10 a.m., against Indiana in doubles play. At 3 p.m., K-State returns to the court to face Troy in doubles play, followed by singles action against Troy at 5:30 p.m.
