Cats Turn in Solid Day at Georgia Invite

Antea Huljev is now two wins shy of 50 for her career.

ATHENS, Ga. – With six singles victories and four doubles wins, Kansas State women’s tennis turned in a strong second day at the Georgia Invitational on Saturday at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.

Freshman Petra Niedermayerova continued her strong effort this weekend with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Karoline Grymel of Troy. Niedermayerova is now 2-0 at the Georgia Invitational after defeating No. 67 Nadja Gilchrist of Georgia on Friday. The product of Brno, Czech Republic has won three straight matches and is now 5-4 this season.

Senior Antea Huljev took one step closer to career win number 50 on Saturday, with a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Leonie Guijt of Troy. Huljev now owns a career mark of 48-60, including a 4-3 record this season.

Also recording a singles victory was junior Nina Sertic. The product of Zagrab, Croatia tallied a 6-1, 7-5 victory over Gabriella Veiga of Troy. Sertic owns a 6-5 record and has won three of her last four outings.

In doubles play, the pairing of sophomore Karla Bonacic and Niedermayerova secured two wins on the day. The duo’s first action of the day, they defeated Leslie Hureau and Katya Zapadalova of Indiana, 8-4. In the second match for Bonacic and Niedermayerova, the pair set down Karoline Grymel and Guijt of Troy, 8-4. The pair is now 7-5 this season and concluded doubles play at the Georgia Invitational with a 2-1 mark.

Kansas State will conclude action at the Georgia Invitational on Sunday morning, as the Wildcats will face Indiana in singles play beginning at 8 a.m. (CT). This will be K-State’s final tune-up before the Wildcats begin its spring duals schedule on Friday, Jan. 21 against New Mexico.
