ATHENS, Ga. – No. 55 Kansas State bounced back from its season-opening defeat on Friday to register a come back win late on Saturday night over No. 75 Elon, 4-3, to conclude its action at the ITA Season Kickoff at the Dan Magill Tennis Center.

Kansas State (0-1) captured the early 1-0 lead by securing the doubles point for the first time this season. The Wildcats carded 6-3 wins at number one and number two doubles. The duo of Petra Niedermayerova and Palma Juhasz teamed up for a 6-3 win over Jordan Johnston and Frida Jansaker at the lead position. The win improves the duo’s record to 2-1 this season. Niedermayerova owns a 64-44 career record in doubles action.

At number two doubles, freshmen Maria Panaite and Iva Bago secured a 6-3 win over Taylor Casey and Maria Camara Ruiz. The win was the first for the tandem of Panaite and Bago (1-4).

Elon (0-3) captured a win at number two singles to even the match at one. Niedermayerova answered with K-State’s first singles win of the night at number one singles. Niedermayerova, ranked No. 42 in the national ITA singles rankings, swept past No. 69 Johnston, 6-4, 6-1.

In her final season, Niedermayerova has tallied an 11-4 record, including a 4-1 mark against ranked opponents. She has won five of her last six matches dating back to the ASU Thunderbird Invitational in November.

Niedermayerova, a two-time ITA All-American and three-time All-Big 12 singles selection, improved her school record for career singles wins 91-37 (.711). Her career singles winning percentage of .711 ranks second in program history.

After Elon captured two straight singles wins at number three and four singles to take a 3-2 lead, K-State freshman Livia Cirnu evened the match at 3 with a 6-2, 6-0 win at number six singles over Camara Ruiz. Cirnu bounced back from a season-opening loss on Friday to knot her record this season at 7-7.

Junior Amina St. Hill clinched the win for the Wildcats by fighting back to secure a 6-4, 5-7, 1-0 win over Casey at number five singles. The win improved St. Hill to 7-6 this season and 27-34 in her career.

All of the ITA Kickoff Weekend matches across the country used experimental formats. All of the women’s matches this weekend for both singles and doubles will be played to six games, with regular scoring and tiebreakers at 6-all. If a singles match splits sets, a match tiebreaker will be played instead of a third set. For the weekend, K-State saw six of its 11 completed singles matches extended to a tiebreaker.

Kansas State will begin a four-match home stand next Friday and Saturday. The Wildcats will host Northern Iowa on Jan. 31, at 1 p.m., and return to action on Saturday at 12 p.m., against Liberty. Both matches are slated to be played indoors at the Body First Tennis and Fitness Center. Both matches are free and open to the public.
