Wildcats Breeze Past Unbeaten Miami (OH)

IOWA CITY, Iowa – After dropping the doubles point for the first time this season, Kansas State regrouped and rolled through singles play to defeat previously unbeaten Miami (OH), 6-1, at the Hawkeye Tennis Complex. K-State is now off to its best start since the 2008 season with a 3-0 mark.

K-State saw the top half of its lineup continue its strong start, as freshman Petra Niedermayerova, senior Antea Huljev and sophomore Karla Bonacic swept through their foes in the one through three positions, respectively. Niedermayerova boosted her record to 8-5 this season with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Stephanie Danesis. Niedermayerova has now won five of her last six efforts, with all five victories coming in straight sets.

Huljev improved her career record to 51-62 and her season mark to 7-4, as she took care of Anastasia Dracheva, 6-4, 6-2. Huljev has now won four of her last five outings and is now 7-8 in her career at the number two position in the lineup.

Bonacic rolled through Megan Martzolf, 6-1, 6-3, to register her fourth win in her fifth opportunity. Bonacic is now 19-21 in her career and is 7-6 this season.

Making her spring debut in the lineup a victorious one, junior Nina Sertic tallied a three-set win over Nimisha Mohan, 0-6, 6-4, 6-3, from the number four position. Sertic is now 7-5 this season and has won four of her last six efforts. She is now 3-1 for her career in the number four position.

Ana Gomez Aleman continued her strong start to the spring season with her third straight win, defeating Reikie Honiball, 6-1, 6-2. Gomez Aleman is now 8-7 this season and now 19-29 for her career.

Petra Chuda closed out the day with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Cara Wald. Chuda won her second straight and brought her season mark to 6-7.

The Wildcats will conclude action in Iowa City on Sunday, as K-State faces No. 40 Iowa at 11 a.m..
