MILWAUKEE, Wis. –
Kansas State concluded action at the 36th annual Milwaukee Tennis Classic on Sunday with doubles competition against South Carolina and singles action against Marquette. In addition to its action on the court, a Wildcat was garnered with an honor by the tournament committee for her overall efforts during the weekend.

Closing out the weekend on a high note was Carmen Borau Ramos. The junior from Jaca, Spain, registered her second singles victory of the weekend with a hard fought three-set win over Marquette’s Ana Pimienta, 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-7). Borau Ramos finished the weekend with a 2-1 records in both singles and doubles play.

Joining Borau Ramos with a second singles victory for the weekend was Marketa Trousilova. The freshman from Teplice, Czech Republic dispatched of Gillian Hush in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3 and finished with 2-1 records in both singles and doubles. Both of Trousilova’s singles wins came in straight sets during her collegiate debut.

In doubles play in the morning, sophomore Petra Niedermayerova and junior Ana Gomez Aleman were defeated for the first time this fall by South Carolina’s Dijana Stojic and Jaklin Alawi, 8-3. The K-State duo finished as the doubles tournament runner-up with a 2-1 mark for the weekend.

During an awards banquet on Saturday night, a K-State player was awarded the Mulcahy Sportsmanship Award for the second straight season. This season the honor went to Gomez Aleman. The product of Murcia, Spain, went 1-2 in singles play and 2-1 in doubles during the weekend. Last season, Niedermayerova was given the distinction in her first career collegiate event.

Kansas State will have a quick turnaround for its next event this fall. The Wildcats will travel to the Hoosier Classic, which begins on Friday and runs through the weekend in Bloomington, Ind.
