K-State Strong in Second Day of Hoosier Classic

Day One Release - Hoosier Classic

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -
For the second day, K-State women's tennis received strong results from sophomore Karla Bonacic and junior Nina Sertic at the Hoosier Classic at the Indiana Tennis Center. Overall on Saturday, the Wildcats carded six singles victories and five doubles wins.

Bonacic reached the championship match of flight one with a comeback three-set win over Evgeniya Vertesheva of Indiana, 2-6, 7-6 (4), 10-8. Bonacic is now 3-2 this fall and improved her career record in three-set matches to 6-2. The product of Split, Croatia will face Leslie Hureau of Indiana on Sunday for the flight one title.

In flight four, junior Nina Sertic advanced to the championship round with her second three-set match in as many days. The native of Zagrab, Croatia came back to defeat Sabrina Jetli of Cincinnati, 0-6, 6-4, 10-8. Sertic boosted her fall mark to 3-2 and is now 7-8 for her career in three-set matches. Sertic will take on Elise Woulfe of Cincinnati on Sunday.

The Wildcats also had two players reach the consolation finals of their flights. Sophomore Ana Gomez Aleman set down Ashleigh Whitte of Cincinnati, 7-6 (3), 6-3 in flight two. Gomez Aleman is now 3-2 this fall.

Junior Petra Chuda notched a three-set win over Sydnee Bridger of Miami of Ohio, 2-6, 6-3. 10-1. Chuda is now 8-8 in her career in three-set matches.

K-State head coach Steve Bietau made adjustments to his doubles teams for Saturday's action to give additional pairs a look during the fall schedule. Sophomores Carmen Borau Ramos and Gomez Aleman secured a pair of victories together on Saturday in their first action together in the 2010-11 season. The duo started with an 8-6 decision over Anastasia Dracheva and Cara Wald of Miami of Ohio.

In their second match, Borau Ramos and Gomez Aleman outlasted the tandem of Stephanie Danesis and Reikie Honiball of Miami of Ohio. Dating back to last season, Borau Ramos and Gomez Aleman are now 7-12 when paired together.

The other new pair this season of junior Nina Sertic and freshman Alina Piotrowski cruised past Ebie Wilson and Elise Woulfe of Cincinnati, 8-1.

Kansas State will conclude action at the Hoosier Classic on Sunday.
