BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Fresh off its opening weekend, Kansas State women’s tennis took to the courts on Friday at the Adidas Hoosier Classic on the Indiana campus to start the second weekend event of the 2012 fall campaign. The Wildcats carded a pair of singles wins during the morning action, while notching two doubles wins in consolation quarterfinal play in the afternoon.

Senior Carmen Borau Ramos and freshman Ivana Kubickova each tallied victories in singles play. Borau Ramos won for the sixth time in her last eight matches with a 6-2, 6-1 decision over JoHanna Manningham of Notre Dame in Flight 4. The win by Borau Ramos is her first at the Hoosier Classic since the 2010 edition in her sophomore season when she went 1-2.

The veteran from Jaca, Spain, is 3-1 in the young season and will play in her second straight semifinal after garnering a third-place finish at last weekend’s KU Invitational. Borau Ramos owns a career record of 33-49, including a 25-33 mark in straight set matches.

For the second straight weekend, Kubickova advanced to the semifinal of her draw as she defeated Shannon Murdy of Indiana, 6-4, 7-6 (6), in Flight 3. The rookie from Brno, Czech Republic finished second in her draw at the KU Invitational and owns a record of 3-1 in her brief K-State career.

After dropping the opening three doubles matches on Friday afternoon, head coach Steve Bietau reconfigured the K-State doubles’ teams. The Wildcats saw better results in the consolation quarterfinals, winning two of the three matches.

The victorious teams were sophomore Amina St. Hill and Kubickova over Manningham and Ashley Tiefel of Colorado, 8-4, and sophomore Carli Wischhoff and Borau Ramos over Mazy Watrous and Carla Manzi Tenorio of Colorado, 8-2. It was the first time Bietau has utilized the two combinations in this young season.

Kansas State will continue action at the Hoosier Classic on Saturday morning. The day will begin at 9:30 a.m. (CT), with doubles play followed by singles action at 10:45 a.m. (CT). Doubles will conclude tomorrow, with the final rounds beginning at 2:30 p.m. (CT).
