K-State Doubles Pair Advances at ITA Regional

TULSA, Okla. – Kansas State women’s tennis picked up six singles wins and four doubles wins on Saturday at two separate locations. Junior Petra Niedermayerova and freshman Ivana Kubickova advanced to the semifinals of the main draw of doubles at the ITA Central Regional, while the Wildcats tallied a singles draw title at the final day of KU Invitational in Lawrence.

The duo of Niedermayerova and Kubickova continued to roll in doubles play at the ITA Central Regional.. The countrywomen, who each hail from Brno, Czech Republic, tallied an 8-2 win over Ruth Seaborne and Katie Zordani of Iowa in the third round of doubles on Saturday morning.
The K-State duo returned to the courts at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center for their quarterfinal match, and defeated Veronika Blaskova and Lucia Kovalova of Wichita State, 8-2. Niedermayerova and Kubickova will face Delsart and Simons of Southern Illinois. Niedermayerova improved her career doubles record to 43-33 (.566), while Kubickova is 8-4 in her young K-State career.

Niedermayerova then took to the singles courts and tallied another straight set win. In her third round matchup against Isaura Enrique of Tulsa, Niedermayerova tallied a 7-6, 6-2 win. Niedermayerova owns an 8-1 mark this fall and improved her career singles record to 56-24 (.700). Niedermayerova’s career mark in straight set matches stands at 48-13 (.787).

Coupled with her quarterfinal effort at the Riviera/ITA event this season and her upcoming quarterfinal appearance on Sunday, Niedermayerova now has an opportunity of receiving an at-large bid into the 2012 USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships in Flushing, N.Y., Nov. 8-11. If she is able to reach the event, it would be her second straight appearance at the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships.

At the KU Invitational in Lawrence, the Wildcats recorded five singles wins in four separate draws. Senior Ana Gomez Aleman ended a personal five-match skid on Friday and rolled on Saturday to the Draw B singles crown Gomez Aleman started her day with a hard-fought three-set win over Vika Khanevskaya of KU, 6-3, 3-6, 6-0. Gomez Aleman closed out her fall season with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Veronique Luksich of Arkansas-Little Rock.

K-State will continue action at the ITA Central Regional on Sunday. Niedermayerova and Kubickova will return to doubles play at 9 a.m., in Tulsa.
