MANHATTAN, Kan. – No. 64 Kansas State will open the 2013 spring schedule this weekend, as the Wildcats travel to Boston, Mass., to face William & Mary and No. 74 Harvard. K-State will face William & Mary on Saturday at 11 a.m. (CT), and Harvard at 10 a.m. (CT). Both matches will be played at the Murr Center on Harvard’s campus.

Head coach Steve Bietau returns for his 29th season with the Wildcats and owns 255 career victories at the helm for K-State. Bietau’s 2013 roster includes six letterwinners from the 2012 squad and will look to improve upon an 8-15 record including a 4-5 mark in Big 12 action. The Wildcats finished the 2012 season ranked No. 71 in the final ITA national team rankings.

Among the returning letterwinners for the Wildcats are junior Petra Niedermayerova and senior Karla Bonacic. Niedermayerova, ranked No. 15 in the ITA national singles rankings, is 14-5 this season in singles action. A two-time All-Big 12 selection, Niedermayerova owns a career singles record of 62-28 (.689). Niedermayerova needs three singles wins to move into fifth on the K-State career singles wins list.

Bonacic enters her final spring season at Kansas State with a career record of 59-36 (.621). The product of Split, Croatia, needs six singles victories to move into fifth on the K-State career singles wins list. Her career winning percentage of .621 ranks sixth in school history.

At the Georgia Invitational last weekend, the No. 34 doubles pair of Niedermayerova and Bonacic pocketed a pair of wins including an 8-4 decision over the No. 18 duo of Courtney Collins and Kelly Gray of Memphis. Niedermayerova and Bonacic are 8-4 this season and own a career record of 21-20 when paired together.

During the 2012 fall schedule, K-State received strong contributions from freshman Ivana Kubickova. The rookie from Brno, Czech Republic, tallied a 12-6 record in tournament play this fall. She strung together wins in seven of her final eight matches of the fall.

Following this weekend’s matches in Boston, K-State will return to Manhattan to host Tulsa at 11 a.m., on Saturday, Feb. 9, at the Body First Tennis and Fitness Center in Manhattan.

St. Hill Climbing the Hill
With her first fall season at K-State under her belt, sophomore Amina St. Hill is prepared to start her second spring season for the Wildcats. The product of Gothenburg, Sweden, is 7-5 following the conclusion of the tournament season.

St. Hill registered her first career win over an ITA singles opponent at the Georgia Invitational and finished with a 2-1 record in the final tune-up for the 2013 spring season. St. Hill enters this season with a 14-17 career record and has won four of her last six singles matches.

Finding Right Doubles Combinations
Kansas State head coach Steve Bietau has been searching for the right doubles combinations during the fall tournament season and may have settled on at least one solid duo. The Wildcats have used nine different doubles pairings this season. K-State has registered a doubles performance of 27-28 (.491) this season. Last season, Bietau used 21 combinations and finished the campaign with a 43-46 (.483) record including a 13-14 mark in Big 12 action.

In the 2013 national ITA doubles rankings, Petra Niedermayerova appears twice. She is ranked No. 30 in the nation with Ivana Kubickova. The duo advanced to the finals of the 2012 ITA Central Regional and has tallied a 5-1 record when paired together this season. Among the 2013 ITA Central region rankings, the pair is ranked No. 3. Niedermayerova owns a team-leading doubles record of 13-4 this season, while she is 46-34 in her career. Kubickova is second on the team with a doubles mark of 12-7.

The second doubles team ranked in the ITA national rankings includes Niedermayerova and Karla Bonacic ranked at No. 34 in and No. 4 in the ITA Central Region rankings. The duo has an 8-4 record this season and has been ranked in five straight national ITA doubles rankings dating back to April 17, 2012. When paired together over the last two-plus seasons, the duo is 21-20.
