No. 66 K-State to Face Colorado, Air Force

MANHATTAN, Kan. – No. 66 Kansas State women’s tennis will look to bounce back from a split weekend in Los Angeles with a trip to Colorado. The Wildcats will face Colorado in Boulder on Saturday at 5 p.m. (CT), and Air Force on Sunday in Colorado Springs at 9:30 a.m. (CT).

Colorado leads the all-time series with K-State, 24-13, but the Wildcats are 6-8 in matches played in Boulder and have won two straight in the series. Kansas State won the last meeting between the teams, 4-1, on Feb. 8, 2014 in Manhattan. The Buffaloes are 1-0 this season following a 7-0 win at Northern Colorado on Jan 24.

This will be K-State’s second straight meeting with a Pac 12 Conference opponent, as the Wildcats fell to No. 1 UCLA on Sunday, 4-0. All-time, K-State is 24-40 against schools from the Pac 12.

K-State and Air Force will meet for the first time. The Wildcats are 11-33 against schools from the Mountain West Conference. The Falcons are 1-1 this season, after splitting last weekend in Lincoln, Nebraska, losing to Nebraska, 5-2, and defeating Army, 6-1.

The Wildcats will be led into the weekend of competition by senior Amina St. Hill and sophomores Iva Bago and Sara Castellano. St. Hill has won a team-high four straight matches and is 8-1 in her last nine matches. St. Hill is 8-4 this season and owns a career mark of 44-45 in singles action.

Bago and Castellano are tied for the team lead with singles records of 9-5. Bago needs two victories to tie her win total from her freshman campaign of 11. Bago has won two straight and six of her last nine outings. Castellano has won two straight from the top of K-State’s singles lineup and three straight overall. In her last 10 singles matches, Castellano is 7-3.

Following this weekend’s action in Colorado, K-State will travel back to California to face San Francisco and Fresno State. Both matches will be played in Fresno and will take place on Feb. 7-8.
