Wildcats Host Syracuse to Open Season

MANHATTAN, Kan. The Kansas State women’s tennis team will open its 35th season of action on Saturday at Ahearn Field House against Syracuse at 10 a.m. This will be the first meeting between the schools.


The Wildcats are led in singles action by senior Viviana Yrureta and freshman Antea Huljev. Yrureta enters the dual match season with a 6-6 record and a career mark of 30-37.


Huljev, a product of Velenje, Slovenia, has a 7-6 singles record in her first season with the Wildcats. Huljev is currently on a four-match winning streak, snaring two wins during the Georgia Invitational on Jan. 18-20.


In doubles play, K-State owns a 13-18 team record with two new combinations making their debut during the Georgia Invitational. The pairing of freshmen Vanessa Cottin and Pauline Guemas recorded a 1-2 mark. The seasoned pair of senior Olga Klimova and Katerina Kudlackova also tallied a 1-2 record. A season ago, Klimova and Kudlackova were the Wildcats’ top doubles team with a mark of 13-11.


Entering the weekend, K-State has won three straight season-openers and four of the last five.


Following the season-opener this weekend, the Wildcats will welcome in Saint Louis on Feb. 9 at 12 p.m.
