Wildcats Make First Road Trip of Season

MANHATTAN, Kan. After opening the season with a win for the fifth straight season, Kansas State women’s tennis will begin a four-match road trip this weekend in Boise, Idaho. K-State will face 38th-ranked Boise State on Feb. 7 at 1 p.m. (MT) and take on Colorado State on Feb. 8 at 9 a.m. (MT).

 

The Wildcats will look to end a five-match losing streak in road openers, with the last win in a road opening match coming on Feb. 8, 2003 at Wichita State. This will be the third straight season that K-State will face a ranked opponent in its first road contest of the season (2008- No. 42 Tulsa; 2007- No. 62 Wichita State).

 

K-State opened the 2009 season with a 6-1 decision over Drake at Cottonwood Racquet Club on Jan. 31. The Wildcats swept the doubles point and captured five of the six singles matches.

 

Sophomore Antea Huljev made her career debut at number one singles with a 7-6 (3), 6-1 win and ended a four-match skid.

 

Junior Natasha Vieira brought her singles record this season to .500, 7-7, with a 6-2, 6-4 win at number six singles. The product of Carabobo, Venezuela, has now won two straight singles matches and five of her last eight outings.  

Kansas State will continue its four-match road trip, Feb. 21-22 at Wichita State. The Wildcats will take on the 70th-ranked Shockers on Feb. 21 and Arkansas-Little Rock on Feb. 22.
