No. 33 Kansas State Downs Utah, 5-2

SALT LAKE CITY - The 33rd-ranked Kansas State women's tennis team improved to 2-1 on the season with a 5-2 victory over Utah Saturday afternoon at the Eccles Tennis Center.

The Utes (2-2) used early victories at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions to win the doubles point, but the dual match ultimately belonged to the Wildcats. K-State's Maria Rosenberg, Paulina Castillejos and Hayley McIver won in straight sets, while Jessica Simosa and Judith Diaz resorted to three-set outcomes to capture five of the six singles match victories of the day. Rosenberg won her third-straight match by routing Utah's Sheri Esrock, 6-3, 6-4, in the top singles spot for both teams.

"We played poorly in all three doubles positions and our ability to solve problems were not at the level it needs to be," Head Coach Steve Bietau said. "Fortunately, we were able to win five out of the six singles matches, to take control of the match. As with our last match, there were moments of good play."

The Wildcats return to action next Sunday, Feb. 15 versus Iowa in a dual match scheduled for 10 a.m. in Iowa City, Iowa.
