MANHATTAN, Kan. – No. 42 Kansas State will begin a 12-match stretch of road and neutral site matches this weekend, as the Wildcats travel to Memphis, Tenn., to face No. 51 Memphis on Friday night and No. 70 Columbia on Saturday afternoon. K-State is the last unbeaten team in the Big 12 and will look secure its first five-match win streak over ranked opponents in the program’s history.

In K-State’s last match, the Wildcats (3-0) ended a six-match skid to No. 23 Tulsa on Feb. 9 at the Body First Tennis and Fitness Center with a 4-3 decision. This is the first 3-0 start for the Wildcats since the 2011 season. This was the highest ranked opponent K-State has defeated since beating No. 10 Baylor on March 18, 2011.

The Wildcats gutted out two singles wins in three-sets, as junior Petra Niedermayerova notched her third straight win at No. 1 singles, while senior Karla Bonacic tallied her second win this spring at No. 2 singles. Niedermayerova has now played four straight 3-set matches, going 3-1 in those matches. For her career, Niedermayerova owns a 12-12 record in extended matches. With two wins this weekend in Memphis, Niedermayerova (65-28) will move into a tie for fourth on the K-State career singles wins list with Alena Jecminkova (1999-02; 67-45).

Bonacic, who has won three of her last four outings, has played three straight 3-set matches and has gone 2-1 in those matches. With two wins this weekend, Bonacic (61-37) will move into a tie for seventh on the K-State career singles wins list with Karina Kuregian (1993-96; 63-32).

Following this weekend’s matches in Memphis, K-State will travel to Wichita, Kan., to face No. 66 Wichita State on Saturday, Feb. 23 and No. 24 Purdue on Sunday, Feb. 24.

Among the Campbell/ITA Rankings
In the debut of the spring 2013 Campbell/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) national team rankings, Kansas State checked in at No. 67 on Jan. 3. Since the debut of those rankings, K-State has ascended to No. 42 in the Feb. 12 rankings. This is the highest team ranking for the Wildcats since reaching No. 41 on April 12, 2011. 

The Wildcats are also represented in the national singles and doubles rankings by Petra Niedermayerova, Karla Bonacic and Ivana Kubickova.

K-State made its 28th appearance in the last 33 Campbell/ITA national team rankings dating back to Feb. 8, 2011.

Niedermayerova opened the 2013 spring season ranked No. 15 in the national ITA singles rankings and retained her top position in ITA Central Region. With her No. 17 ranking in the Fevb. 12 singles rankings, she has now appeared in 20 consecutive national ITA singles rankings with a career-best of No. 14 in the fall 2012 rankings.

In the Feb. 12 national doubles rankings, Niedermayerova appeared twice. She is ranked No. 26 and No. 4 in the ITA Central Region rankings with Karla Bonacic. The duo has a 10-5 record this season, including two wins this spring over top-20 doubles teams. Niedermayerova and Bonacic have been ranked together in six straight national ITA doubles rankings dating back to April 17, 2012. When paired together over the last two-plus seasons, the duo is 23-21. Bonacic owns a career doubles record of 49-53.

Niedermayerova also appears at No. 28 in the nation with Ivana Kubickova, after the duo advanced to the finals of the 2012 ITA Central Regional, and has tallied a 5-1 record when paired together this season. Among the 2013 ITA Central region rankings, the pair is ranked No. 3. Niedermayerova owns a team-leading doubles record of 15-5 this season, while she is 48-35 in her career. Kubickova is second on the team with a doubles mark of 14-7.

Carmen the Conquerer
Carmen Borau Ramos provided Kansas State with strong results from the lower half of the K-State singles lineup in the 2011-12 season and has continued to do so in the early stages of the 2012-13 season. Borau Ramos clinched an upset win for the Wildcats over No. 23 Tulsa with a straight set decision at the No. 5 spot in the K-State lineup. For her career, Borau Ramos is 9-6 at No. 5 in the lineup. This season she owns a 7-8 record.

Borau Ramos set a new career-high for wins in a season with an 11-15 overall record in 2011-12, including an 8-8 mark in dual match play. During the 2010-11 season, Borau Ramos proved to be K-State’s closer as she sealed wins against No. 10 Baylor and Oklahoma State for the Wildcats.

The senior from Jaca, Spain, also set new career-highs for wins in Big 12 play with a 6-2 mark and wins in straight set matches with a 9-9 record.
