K-State Drops 6-1 Decision to BYU

MANHATTAN, Kan. Fernanda Da Valle won in singles and doubles for the second consecutive day but couldn’t help the Wildcats avoid a 6-1 loss to BYU at Ahearn Field House on Saturday.

Da Valle teamed with Viviana Yrureta to knock off the Cougar duo Lauren Jones and Sofia Holden, but the effort was lost as the Wildcats dropped the doubles point and the match.

After earning wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles, BYU rolled to wins at the top three singles positions and clinched the victory.

Kansas State’s Maria Perevoschikova, Katerina Kudlackova and Yrureta were all defeated in straight sets. The Wildcats were forced to move positions No. 2 through No. 6 up after the Wildcats Tamar Kvaratskhelia was forced to withdraw due to injury.

Da Valle topped Sofia Holden, 7-6(7-3), 6-2, to help the Wildcats avoid being shut-out and earned her second victory in as many days.

The Wildcats inserted Natasha Vieira at the bottom of the lineup where she was defeated by BYU’s Dolly Chang in a third-set tie-break.

Kansas State begins a four-game road trip that includes the start of Big 12 competition against Iowa State on March 2 in Ames, Iowa. The Wildcats travel to Albuquerque, N.M., next weekend to take on Boise State and New Mexico.
