Cats Face Shockers, Trojans This Weekend

MANHATTAN, Kan. Kansas State women’s tennis returns to the court this weekend with a trip to Wichita to face No. 71 Wichita State on Saturday at 6 p.m. at the Wichita Country Club. K-State will return to the court on Sunday to face Arkansas-Little Rock at 9 a.m. at the Crestview Country Club.

K-State (2-1) split its first road trip of the year, as the Wildcats fell to Boise State, 7-0, on Feb. 7 and defeated Colorado State, 5-2, on Feb. 8.

The Wildcats upset the No. 34-ranked Wichita State squad last season in Ahearn Field House, 5-2. K-State leads the series with the Shockers, 20-17, and has won 12 of the last 13 meetings with Wichita State. K-State defeated a Missouri Valley Conference foe earlier this season, defeating Drake, 7-0, on Jan. 31. The Wildcats are 49-24 all-time against teams from the Missouri Valley Conference.

Sunday’s match with UALR (1-2) will be the second meeting in the series, as K-State captured the first match on Feb. 19, 1989, 7-2. The Wildcats are 6-4 all-time against teams from the Sun Belt Conference.

The Wildcats have had four singles players register 2-1 records in the early stages of the spring campaign. K-State players with a 2-1 mark are: senior Katerina Kudlackova, junior Natasha Vieira, sophomore Antea Huljev and freshman Petra Chuda. Vieira, Huljev and Chuda enter the weekend with overall records of .500 or better this season, with Huljev owning a team-high 10 wins in singles play.

K-State has also been bolstered by the doubles pairing of Vieira and Chuda. The tandem, playing at the No. 3 doubles position, has registered a 2-1 mark this spring and is 7-5 overall this season. Chuda has been a solid doubles player for the Wildcats this season, with a team-leading overall doubles record of 11-6. Vieira is the other Wildcat to register a winning doubles record with an 8-5 mark.

Kansas State will return to Manhattan to face No. 42 BYU on Thursday, March 5 at 11 a.m. The match will be played at Cottonwood Racquet Club.
