Wildcats Hit Road for Big 12 Matches

MANHATTAN, Kan. Kansas State women’s tennis takes to the road this weekend for a pair of Big 12 matches at Missouri on Friday and at Colorado on Sunday. The Wildcats will look to put an end to a five-match losing streak.


The Wildcats (4-5, 0-1 Big 12) have been led recently by senior Viviana Yrureta and freshman Antea Huljev. Yrureta won her second straight three-set match and defeated her second ranked opponent of the season, as she defeated No. 116 Ola Abou-Zekry of New Mexico 6-1, 0-6, 6-2, on Saturday. She now owns an 11-9 mark this season and is 5-3 in the spring at the number one position.


Huljev won her third straight match with a hard fought three-set win over Mackenzie White of New Mexico at the number three position, 6-3, 0-6, 6-4. The native of Velenje, Slovenia owns a team-high 13 singles wins this season and is 6-2 during the spring season.


Missouri (8-5, 0-1) was defeated by Colorado last Saturday, 7-0, in Boulder in its most recent match. K-State leads the all-time series with the Tigers, 21-8, but Missouri has captured three of the last four meetings.


Colorado (3-6, 1-0) registered its second straight win with the victory over Missouri last Saturday. The Buffaloes welcomed in Yale on Tuesday afternoon and will host both Kansas and K-State this weekend. Colorado holds a 19-11 edge in the series with K-State. The two teams have split the last 10 meetings in the series and the Wildcats earned a 4-3 win at Colorado in the last trip to Boulder on March 4, 2006.


Following the weekend road trip, K-State returns to Manhattan for a five-match homestand beginning on Wednesday, March 19 against Iowa at 1 p.m.
