No. 13 Bulldogs Bite Wildcats

FRESNO, Calif. Natasha Vieira and Tamar Kvaratskhelia earned a victory in their doubles match for Kansas State but it was the only win the Wildcats could muster in a, 7-0, loss to No. 13 Fresno State at the Wathen Tennis Center on Thursday.

Vieira and Kvaratskhelia defeated Fresno’s Danon Beatty and Vanessa Heroux, 9-7, but the Wildcats dropped the doubles point and the match to the Bulldogs. With the loss, K-State (2-9) finished its three-match spring break road trip winless and extended its current losing streak to eight matches.

Despite a strong push at No. 2 doubles by Fernanda Da Valle and Viviana Yrureta, the Wildcats couldn’t find another win against Fresno’s top two nationally-ranked doubles pairs and lost the doubles point, 2-1.

Fresno State (11-2) opened singles play by taking the first set in all six matches. Kvaratskhelia was the first to fall in singles for K-State, dropping a straight set decision to No. 70 Anastasia Petukhova at No. 3.

Kansas State’s Katerina Kudlackova was defeated by Beatty in straight sets at No. 4 and Yrureta was upended by No. 3 Melanie Gloria to seal the victory for Fresno.

With the trip to California, the Wildcats concluded their non-conference schedule and return to Big 12 competition in their next matches at Oklahoma (March 31) and Oklahoma State (April 1).
