Wildcats to Begin Five-Match Road Trip

MANHATTAN, Kan. Kansas State women’s tennis will begin a five-match road trip this weekend, as the Wildcats face No. 70 Oklahoma State on March 28 and Oklahoma on March 29. This is the longest road trip for the Wildcats since a six-match stretch from March 18- April 4, 2007.

K-State (3-7, 0-3 Big 12) will face four ranked opponents in the next six matches, including the opening match this weekend with the No. 70 Cowgirls (7-8, 1-3 Big 12). The Wildcats captured last season’s meeting with Oklahoma State in Manhattan, winning 4-3.

The Wildcats will look to capture their first win in Norman against the Sooners (6-9, 0-5 Big 12) since April 14, 2001, a 6-1 decision. K-State is 6-6 in the last 12 meetings with Oklahoma, while the Sooners hold the advantage in the overall series at 21-12.

K-State has been bolstered by its number three doubles team of sophomore Antea Huljev and freshman Petra Chuda. The tandem is 4-1 this season, including a 3-1 mark in the spring.

Chuda, a product of Sokolnice, Czech Republic, has been one of K-State’s top doubles players this season with a 14-8 record, including a 5-3 mark this spring.

In singles action, freshman Masha Slupska has shaken off a slow start to the spring season to win three of her last five matches. Slupska, a native of Kiev, Ukraine, has possibly found her spot in the lineup with a 2-0 record at number four singles.
