Cats Host Pair of Matches This Weekend

MANHATTAN, Kan. Kansas State women’s tennis will look to end a two-match losing skid this weekend, as they host Oklahoma State and Oklahoma at Washburn Tennis Facility on Friday and Saturday at 1 p.m. Admission to the matches is free.

 

K-State (5-7, 1-2 Big 12) is led from the top by senior Viviana Yrureta. The Wildcats’ number one singles player has tallied a 13-10 record this season and has won four of her last five matches. The product of Puerto Ordaz, Venezuela has been able to go the distance this season, as she has an 8-1 mark in three-set matches including a stretch of three straight wins from March 5 to March 14.

 

Oklahoma State (5-5, 0-2) leads the series with the Wildcats at 29-4. The last K-State win over the Cowgirls came on March 9, 2003 in Stillwater. In the previous match for Oklahoma State, the Cowgirls defeated Wichita State, 5-2, with three of the four singles wins coming in three-sets.

 

Oklahoma (7-6, 0-2) leads the series with K-State, 20-12. K-State last defeated the Sooners on April 2, 2006 in Manhattan. The Sooners were defeated in their last outing, 6-1 on March 22 by No. 19 TCU. Oklahoma received its only win of the day from the number three position by freshman Maria Kalashnikova in three-sets.

 

Following this weekend’s matches, the Wildcats will conclude its five-match homestand against Texas Tech and No. 2 Baylor on April 4 and 6, respectively.
