Sooners Dispatch of Cats

MANHATTAN, Kan. Kansas State opened Saturday afternoon with a win at number two doubles, but that was all it would get as Oklahoma swept the Wildcats, 7-0, at Washburn Tennis Facility.

The freshman combination of Antea Huljev and Vanessa Cottin captured K-State’s (6-8, 2-3 Big 12) an 8-4 win over Christi Baxley and Elena Antakova. This is just the second win in three tries for the doubles combination of Huljev and Cottin.

The Wildcats had an opportunity to capture the doubles point over the Sooners (8-7, 1-3 Big 12), as the number three doubles pair of Viviana Yrureta and Natasha Vieira held a 7-4 lead over Tara Eckel and Maria Kalashnikova. Oklahoma rallied to even the match at 7, before Yrureta and Vieira retook the lead at 8-7. Oklahoma evened the match at 8 and secured the doubles point with a 7-4 decision in the tie break for the 9-8 victory.

Kansas State will close out its five-match homestand next weekend, as the Wildcats host Texas Tech on April 4 at 1 p.m. and No. 2 Baylor on April 6 at 12 p.m.
